Edmonton, Alberta | Full-Time | In Person

tappCONNECT Inc. is seeking an experienced transportation safety professional to lead our Health & Safety, Claims, and Driver Safety functions.

Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the Manager leads a small operational team consisting of a Claims employee and a Road Supervisor.

This is primarily a manager-of-function-and-people role, but it is intentionally hands-on. The Manager must understand the work of both direct reports and be prepared to provide operational coverage during vacations, absences, and other periods when support is needed.

Transportation Safety Leadership

The Claims employee receives and processes collision files, gathers and documents supporting information, and develops the claim/investigation record.

The Road Supervisor conducts road tests and competency assessments for new and existing drivers and produces detailed telematics reporting on driver behaviour and performance.

The Manager:

  • Reviews collision, claims, road-assessment, and telematics information
  • Identifies driver and fleet-safety trends
  • Establishes corrective-action and training priorities
  • Coaches and directs the Claims employee and Road Supervisor
  • Works with Operations to address driver-performance concerns
  • Uses collision and telematics information to reduce preventable incidents
  • Identifies systemic driver-safety issues
  • Maintains sufficient working proficiency in claims processing, collision documentation, road testing, and telematics review to provide coverage when either direct report is unavailable

Health & Safety / COR

The Manager has direct ownership of the organization’s H&S/COR management system and is responsible for:

  • Maintaining and continuously improving COR
  • Alberta OHS compliance
  • Incident investigation oversight and root-cause analysis
  • Corrective and preventive action
  • Safety policies, procedures and programs
  • Hazard assessments and inspections
  • Training direction and safety initiatives
  • Safety KPIs and management reporting
  • Compiling and analyzing information received from operating departments
  • Completing hands-on H&S administrative and reporting functions as required

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years of progressive health and safety experience
  • Transportation, trucking, transit, fleet or commercial-vehicle experience preferred
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience
  • Experience with COR
  • Knowledge of Alberta OHS requirements
  • Experience with collision and incident investigation
  • Understanding of WCB and claims processes
  • Strong analytical, coaching and communication skills
  • Ability to interpret claims, telematics and driver-performance information
  • Willingness and ability to provide hands-on operational coverage for team members when required
  • Valid Alberta driver’s license

Knowledge of Alberta National Safety Code requirements, commercial fleet safety, preventable-collision analysis, driver assessment, remedial training, telematics, vehicle-camera systems and fatigue/distracted-driving prevention would be valuable.

CTSC, CTSP, CRSP, CRST, CHSC, NCSO or COR Auditor credentials are considered assets.

Why tappCONNECT?

This is an opportunity to lead transportation safety in an organization where Claims, Driver Safety and Operations generate meaningful information that can be used to improve performance.

The Manager will have direct access to senior leadership while remaining close enough to the operation to understand the work, support the team, and step in when required.

If you are a transportation safety professional who enjoys leading people, working with drivers and Operations, and turning data into practical risk reduction, we encourage you to apply.
